Happy new year everybody!!
Well it's a new year and I'm in a new area, that's right back in the
Bronx, specifically in Hunts Point, my new companion is elder
Santibañez, he is Mexican so I was pretty excited to work with a
Hispanic companion so that I can learn better Spanish but it turns out
that he was born in the US and his parents never spoke Spanish to him
when he was little so he pretty much learned it all here from scratch.
Oh well.
So this week was a really hard working week for us, upstate is nothing
like the city, we walk a TON here it gets pretty tiring, every night
we just come home and plan and then I just go straight to bed because
I'm super exhausted. In this area we do a lot of lookups and we just
try to get to know the members because we don't know anybody so it's
kinda hard to get set lessons but we did pretty good, we actually have
a baptism this Saturday for a lady named Albertina and her 2 sons
Andre and Euler they are from Angola Africa so they speak Portuguese
but they understand Spanish because it's really similar but we just
teach them in English because she understands just as much English as
she does Spanish. On Saturday we had a lesson with them on tithing and
we thought it was gonna be a harder lesson for her to understand
because she is working really hard and doesn't get a lot of money and
has to support a family of 3 by herself because she also had a 2 year
old and she works a lot, there are days where she starts work at 6am
and doesn't get home until 12 am, and some months she doesn't have
enough money to pay rent but she accepted to live the law of tithing
and doesn't have a problem with that at all, this family is really
solid and a super prepared family and we are really excited for them
and the decision that they made to be baptized.
Love,
ElderPugmire
